According to tourism statistics, the number of foreign tourists visiting İstanbul in 2019 has an increase of 11% according to the previous year. In January - December 2019, 14.906.663 foreign visitors arrived in İstanbul.

Congress tourism is among of the most significant and high-volume tourism types in the industry, generating between 20-30% of the world's tourism revenue. Given its already-established popularity as a destination, Turkey has a notably high potential to service congress tourists. Location, history, natural beauty, the Istanbul excess of transportation facilities, congress tourism in Turkey has led to being one of the busiest cities. As Istanbul is an international center of art and culture, culture and art shows and conferences have taken place in the cultural palette of the city. Istanbul is currently the world's first destination in the category of congresses with more than 500 participants. Based on the International Congress and Convention Association's (ICCA), Turkey holds the 37th place in event rankings, and 8th place in Europe.
